Rottneros Develops New Food Packaging Tray

Swedish firm Rottneros has developed a new packaging tray for use in food applications.

The company has designed the new food packaging tray to be used for convenience food, meat in grocery stores and take away food.

Designed to replace plastic alternatives, Rottneros has manufactured the new food packaging tray on the new production line at its facility in Sunne.

The company has produced the tray by using wooden raw material, which is recyclable, renewable and degradable.

The tray holds capacity to withstand moisture and fat from the food, enabling to keep the food fresh for a long time.

According to the company, the plastic is either completely eliminated or significantly reduced in products with high barrier requirements due to the increasing use of renewable and degradable type of plastic.

Rottneros Packaging managing director Kasper Skuthälla said: “We are very pleased to be able to present a product based on Swedish wooden raw materials, developed by Rottneros, that we will have the opportunity to start manufacturing and supplying to the food industry.”

Rottneros CEO Lennart Eberleh said that this is a very interesting step in the development of Rottneros Packaging and demonstrates the future potential of sustainable packaging solutions.

“Rottneros Packaging fits well with the company's niche strategy and the growth phase the group is currently in.”

Rottneros produces two types of pulp, including mechanical and chemical pulp. Its Pulp can be used in various applications, including board and packaging, tissue, printing and writing, as well as electrical applications.
