Brisbane to Get Its Own Monopoly Board Game

Residents of the Queensland state capital are being encouraged to suggest their own landmarks to feature on the board via a dedicated Facebook page.

Queensland capital, Brisbane is getting its first taste of board game fame as Hasbro details its latest themed version of the hit game Monopoly.

The toy maker has revealed that a new Brisbane inspired edition of the game will be in shops across Australia in time for Christmas 2016.

However, before it does, licensee Winning Moves has called on residents of the Australian city for their input in deciding what this new edition’s versions of Mayfair, Park Lane or Old Kent Road will be.

Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has said that the new Monopoly will ‘finally put Brisbane on the map,’ and according to the Brisbane Times, already has some ideas about what Brisbane landmarks he would like to see populate the iconic Monopoly board.

“I think that South Bank is obviously a big tip,” he said. “It’d be great to see City Hall there and the Story Bridge is an old favourite of mine.

“But I think the people of this city will have their say in what goes on the board and there will be some left-field ideas and that’s great. If it makes it more interesting, more controversial and more exciting then that’s a good thing for Brisbane.”

Brisbane is now the last Australian mainland state capital to get its own Monopoly board and the previous Australian version, based on Melbourne, sold 55,000 games.

Brisbane residents now have until July 31st to suggest Brisbane properties via a dedicated Brisbane Monopoly Facebook Page.

The two most popular suggestions will lay claim to the Mayfair and Park Lane positions.
