Xylem Has Announced The Addition of a Next-Generation

Claims it can reduce energy consumption by up to 35%

Xylem, the global water technology company, has announced the addition of a next-generation, intelligent pump station controller to its portfolio of advanced monitoring and control technologies. Designed specifically for pump station applications, Xylem's Flygt MultiSmart enables operators to maximise the efficiency of their facility, saving both time and money; the controller can reduce the energy consumption of a pump station by up to 35%*.

Xylem's Flygt MultiSmart was on display at the Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference in Chicago, Illinois earlier this month.   "Xylem is focused on enabling our customers to get the most out of their water and wastewater systems thanks to smart monitoring and control technology. Flygt MultiSmart enables our customers to take control of their pump stations," said Patrik Stolpe, monitoring and control manager for Xylem.    "The controller's advanced capabilities ensure that a pump station is run as efficiently as possible, saving valuable time as well as operational costs. Essentially, Flygt MultiSmart simplifies operations, making the operator's job a lot easier by significantly reducing the complexity of controlling a pump station."   For example, a built-in 'pump reversal' feature prevents clogging while the controller can also clean out the well by removing floatables on a regular basis. An alarm feature prompts the operator to carry out necessary maintenance to prevent problems occurring in the system. This avoids the nuisance and expense of call outs.    In addition, by monitoring and calculating power usage in real time this intelligent controller enables operators to maximize the energy efficiency of their pump station. Understanding the amount of energy used by each individual pump enables the operator to leverage the most efficient pump, which reduces the power consumed by the station as a whole and in turn lowers energy costs."     Xylem's Flygt MultiSmart can control up to six pumps. The controller's default settings can be easily adapted to suit the requirements of individual pump stations while a remote control feature reduces the frequency of site visits.    The controller's intuitive interface is designed to be user-friendly and a setup wizard guides simple, step-by-step installation.
