Voith to Supply Tissue Paper Machine to Portuguese Firm

German paper company Voith has received an order from Portuguese pulp and paper firm The Navigator Company to supply its XcelLine tissue machine.

The XcelLine tissue machine’s production line has been designed to produce high-quality tissue paper, by maximizing the use of Eucalyptus pulp.

The machine will be installed at The Navigator’s site in Cacia, Portugal.  The Cacia site is considered to be the biggest pulp production plants in Europe.

As per the supply contract, Voith will supply its latest technology to minimise energy consumption, while improving efficiency in short fibre usage.

The company claims that its NipcoFlex T shoe press has been one of the key factors for The Navigator to choose Voith.  Thanks to the technology, thermal energy needs have been substantially reduced.

Voith’s XcelLine tissue machine is claimed to operate at speeds of 2000m/ min and can annually produce about 70,000 metric tons of high quality toilet and towel papers from pulp. The machine can reach a width of 5600mm.

The Navigator says that by adding Voith’s tissue machine, it can increase its production to up to 130,000 tons per year. Delivery of the machine is expected to take place in the second half of next year.

Voith also stated that the new tissue line will be equipped with an energy-efficient, operator friendly components and systems such as the Pluralis refining technology, the MasterJet headbox, EvoDry T steel Yankee and the EcoHood T. A core part of the delivery will be the Papermaking 4.0 features including the innovative ComCore automation platform.

The Navigator Company is the new name for the former Portucel Soporcel Group. It was rebranded last year. The company is one of third biggest exporter in the country.

It is claimed that The Navigator accounts for about 1% of the company’s total GDP and about 3% of the country’s total exports of goods.
