Hasbro Files Patent For 3D Scanning Toy Tech

The concept would give the user the ability to incorporate the 3D scan of their favourite toy into a game, or output it to a 3D printer.

Hasbro has filed a patent for a new tech that allows kids to 3D scan their favourite toys to their smartphone.

The US Patent Office released details of a patent application last week that describes Hasbro’s concept of a rotating platform on which kids can place their toy in order to scan it as a 3D image.

The published application then details that the user would then have the ability to incorporate the 3D scan into a game, or output it to a 3D printer.

The application itself includes a base station, turntable with a manual crank for kids to rotate, a bluescreen style backdrop and a dock for holding on to an iPhone.

To date, there is no word on when such a product will be released, or indeed, if the concept will be developed any further, but the patent has excited a number of fans of 3D scanning and printing as a possible future for the medium in the toy space.Hasbro Files Patent For 3D Scanning Toy Tech_1
