Supercar maker McLaren has launched its first approved scheme for pre-owned vehicles, giving those buying second-hand McLaren models the same level of confidence as if buying from new.

Dubbed McLaren Qualified, and following in the footsteps of other luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW, the approved pre-owned vehicle program has been created to ensure all previously purchased models are checked and qualified by McLaren-trained technicians and are fully upgraded to the latest specifications including the 18kW power increase the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine received last year seeing figures rise to 460kW and 600Nm.

The new program not only allows potential owners to locate the latest approved models via a specific McLaren Qualified website, but once ownership of a pre-owned vehicle is taken, they join the “McLaren family”, granting access to an array of exclusive opportunities and offers designed to make the ownership experience even more unique, such as invitations to events, dedicated ‘Pure McLaren’ track days and visits to the McLaren Technology Centre – the base of the McLaren Group.

McLaren is also offering those who take advantage of the McLaren Qualified scheme the option to personalise their McLaren MP4-12C or 12C Spider through its McLaren Special Operations (MSO) unit, with preferential rates across its range of bespoke options. McLaren says upgrades are available to every customer up to four weeks from handover and can be tailored for each and every car.

McLaren Qualified vehicles will also be covered under a minimum two-year/unlimited-kilometre comprehensive factory warranty and roadside assistance.

McLaren Automotive sales and marketing director Greg Levine said the management and tight control of pre-owned vehicles was key to maintaining the exclusivity, customer experience and overall residual value of each McLaren vehicle.

“This is something that is important to us and, more crucially, our customers.

“Through the McLaren Qualified program, we are ensuring that the pre-owned McLaren ownership experience is a unique journey, that provides owners with the knowledge and confidence that every pre-owned 12C or 12C Spider is sold to McLaren standards.”

In Australia, the McLaren MP4-12C retails from $493,100 while the convertible Spider version is priced from $543,900.
