Can-Making Firm Tests Sacmi's Cap Inspection System at Spanish Plant

Sacmi Automation & Inspection Systems Division’s new cap inspection system has been tested by an undisclosed can manufacturer at its facility in Asturias, Spain.

The new DECOCAP 360-3D cap inspection system is claimed to be the first of its kind for total inspection of decorated twist-off caps.

Initial production testing has been successfully completed for the DECOCAP 360-3D, which operates with the help of 5 video cameras.

One of the cameras is intended to inspect the product from above while the other four inspect the side walls.

Capable of inspecting caps with a maximum diameter of110mm at speeds of up to 1,200 caps per minute, the machine is designed to allow perfect 2D reconstruction of the captured 3D image. This eliminates potential distortion effect caused by perspective, lid shape or surface reflection.

The solution is lined by ULYSSE, the new Sacmi’s all-in-one vision system designed to ensure greater compactness and user-friendliness.

Sacmi said in a statement: “Various configurations are provided, including the one chosen by this customer for interior inspection of lugged caps with extensive decorated areas (including curls and lugs).”

The solution also features an exclusive, patented Chrometriq illuminator, which uses amix of RGB and infrared light to capture two images per millisecond.

Sacmi is a manufacturer of machines and complete plants for the ceramic tile, beverage, packaging, quality control process, and plastics industries.
