NLMK Kaluga in their hot testing of its electric arc furnace and rolling shops has cast their first metric ton of steel. NLMK Kaluga which is a subsidiary of Russian steelmaker NLMK Group will start production of rebar and sections on an industrial scale in June. The plant is situated 90km away from Moscow and is designed to supply high-quality products to fill the deficit in central Russia's long steel supply. Central Russia accounts for over a third of long product consumption in the country. The new plant's annual capacity is 1.5 million tons and its rolling capacity is 900,000 tons.
