NSTPE Implement Its Second Phase During 2014-2018 with a Investment of NT$5 Billion

Taiwan's National Science and Technology Program-Energy (NSTPE) will implement its second phase during 2014-2018 with an annual investment of NT$5 billion (US$167 million) in energy research to attain three major goals: energy self-sufficiency, greenhouse gas reductions and development of local energy industries, according to vice economics minister Woody Duh, who is in charge of the project.

While the first phase of NSTPE focused on surveys and academic studies with a total spending of NT$24.7 billion in five years, the second phase will focus on research and development that can produce practicable applications, Duh emphasized.

The second-phase focuses include: smart power grid, offshore wind power, and oceanic energy, carbon reductions, and geothermal energy, Duh pointed out.
