The “Hippocampus Electrolier” chandelier is located in the lobby of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. Featuring mythological creatures of fanciful carousel animals that are half horse and half sea creature. This massive chandelier weighs 3,000 pounds (1.5 tons) and is finished entirely in 22-karat gold leaf, hand-cut Austrian crystal and custom-blown glass.

The chandelier’s design was originally handcrafted in the 1920’s at Coney Island by M.C. Illions, a manufacturer of merry-go-rounds and a master designer. Interesting fact, the crystal globe at the bottom of the Hippocampus Electrolier chandelier is actually a time capsule scheduled for opening during the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Walt Disney World Resort. The Disney BoardWalk Resort opened on July 1, 1996.
