UK-based global brewer AB InBev has introduced a new lightweight bottle for Beck's and Beck's Blue.
AB InBev UK & Ireland president Inge Plochaet said the company worked closely with its partners in the industry to reduce the impact of its operations on the environment.
"The lighter Beck's bottles will make a tangible contribution to this effort and represent another significant step towards realising our ambition to become the Best Beer Company in a Better World," Plochaet said.
The 275ml Beck's and Beck's Blue bottles, which first appeared in the UK's on and off trade earlier in 2012, weigh 20g/, which is nearly 11% lighter than the earlier version.
According to the company, it estimated that the changes will impact over 130 million bottles in 2013, which saves a total of 2,642 tons of glass, equivalent to 200 modern double-decker buses.
