The Government of Kano State in Nigeria Has Invested N2 Billion for Importing Machinery

The government of Kano state in Nigeria has invested N2 billion for importing machinery and equipment to be installed in 44 new garment factories that are being set up across the state, Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said, according to a Nigerian Tribune report.

Mr. Kwankwaso revealed this information during his meeting with a United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) delegation.

The decision to build 44 new garment production units across the province was first announced by the Governor in February this year, after his India visit, where he saw how garment industries are flourishing in the South Asian country, and how they are desirable for creating employment opportunities and for income generation.

Each of the 44 new garment manufacturing units are being constructed at a cost of N50 million, and the government has set aside another N2.5 billion for purchasing machinery to be installed at these centres.

The Governor told the UNIDO delegation that buildings and other primary facilities are already been provided for the garment units, and N2 billion worth of machinery is being imported.

He said that his government would avail services offered by the UNIDO for the benefit of Kano citizens. He added that it would be worthwhile if the UNIDO can provide technical support assistance to Kano in obtaining raw materials and also assist entrepreneurs with their marketing strategies, including product packaging.

The UNIDO delegation led by Chinua Ezedinma was in the state to find out areas where they could sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government for improving the standard of living of the people in the province.
