Amazon Announces It Managed to Sell Upwards of 5 Billion Items Last Year Alone

Amazon has announced it managed to sell upwards of 5 billion items last year alone.

What’s more, Amazon says 40 per cent of those sales – around 2 billion – were from Amazon third-party sellers worldwide.

According to the company, the number of sellers grew by 65 per cent year-on-year, an assured boon to 2014’s impressive sales figures.

Peter Faricy, VP for Amazon Marketplace, said: “It’s been a record-setting year for selling on Amazon. We’re seeing strong growth from sellers listing their items across our global marketplaces.”

“In fact, there are now more than a billion offers for customers to browse from sellers who are listing items for sale outside their home country.”

Faricy also gave praise to improving mobile platforms and their contribution to Amazon’s revenue boost.

“The growth of mobile and the introduction of the Amazon Seller App have also been a big win for sellers this year,” said the VP.

“Sellers are constantly telling us they value the flexibility of managing their businesses on-the-go from their tablets and mobile devices.”

Christmas giving also helped pad out the Amazon coffers, with the firm reporting 50 per cent year-on-year growth for the holiday season.

Sellers offering deals for the festive season also saw a 400 per cent year-over-year rise in units sold, making this Amazon’s most profitable holiday yet.

Cyber Monday was singled out in particular, with 16 million units ordered in just one day.

China and Hong Kong were also noted in Amazon’s announcement for their 80 per cent rise in sellers compared to 2013. Amazon now boasts sellers in over 100 countries globally.
