USPTO Has Granted a Patent to Absorption-Enhancing Self-Assembling Aqueous Hydrogels

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted a patent No. 8,329,220 to Aegis Therapeutics' absorption-enhancing self-assembling aqueous hydrogels, designed for delivering peptide and small molecules.

The Aegis Hydrogels, which have a thixotropic nature, are used in sustained release depot applications allowing liquid-like flow through fine-gauge needles (28 gauge or 31 gauge) with resumption of the stable gel form immediately upon exiting the needle.

The hydrogels are also used in dermal applications which immediately absorb into the skin with no sense of any residue remaining.

The company said it is seeking licensees for prescription and OTC applications of the Aegis Hydrogels.
