Group of 35 Weavers Undertaking a Exposure Trip to Jharkhand

A group of 35 weavers from various handloom clusters of the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir are visiting Jharkhand, a state in eastern India which has made remarkable progress in handloom sector during the past few years.

Flagging off the awareness-cum-exposure trip, J&K Minister of Industries and Commerce SS Slathia said the visit would help the state’s weavers understand the modern marketing trends as well as the ever-changing choices of the customers.

Such visits would also help in product diversification and in turn contribute to greater income for weavers, the Minister said.

He said Kashmiri handloom and handicraft items have enjoyed royal patronage in the past and these need to be promoted in the world market.

He added that it is necessary to expand customer base by adopting latest marketing techniques, including marketing on the Internet.

The visit of the weavers has been organized by J&K Department of Handlooms, under the aegis of Commissioner for Development of Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
