The Hyundai Genesis Sedan Was Caught Undisguised by a South Korean Motoring Site

The Hyundai Genesis sedan that could rival the likes of the 5 Series and E-Class in Australia has been caught undisguised by a South Korean motoring site.

Hyundai’s large car will be built in right-hand drive for the first time for its second-generation form, and is under strong consideration for our market. Hyundai Australia has already confirmed it will import the next Genesis coupe, due in 2015, that is also moving from left-hand-drive only.

CarAdvice understands the Hyundai Genesis will show off its sleeker look before the end of the year, with its first major public outing at January’s 2014 Detroit motor show.

In proportions and shape, the new Genesis sedan looks significantly more dynamic than the outgoing model – with some resemblances to BMW’s rival 5 Series, especially in the longer, lower bonnet with ‘chopped’ nose.

There’s also cab-rearward stance, a shallower DLO (window area), and there’s a coupe-like design created by the sloping C-pillar.

The Hyundai Genesis also features a new interpretation of the company’s hexagonal grille that is expected to be transferred to future models. Both the headlights and lower, horizontal fog lights appear to feature LEDs.

Also noticeable is the relative lack of sheet metal creases and more understated lines compared to the ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language used for current Hyundais.

As reported by CarAdvice in February this year, the new Genesis will feature a choice of rear-wheel drive plus the new addition of all-wheel drive. Hyundai recently confirmed its AWD system would be called HTRAC.

Engines are expected to comprise carry-over 3.8-litre V6 and 5.0-litre V8. The auto is likely to be a ZF eight-speeder, though Hyundai and Kia are developing a 10-speed auto.

The new Hyundai Genesis was previewed by the Hyundai HCD-14 concept (pictured above) at the 2013 Detroit motor show.
