Intercity Helicopter Flights Open in China Guangdong

South China's Guangdong Province launched regular helicopter trips between Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai city on Wednesday.

The intercity flight, reportedly the first of its kind on the Chinese mainland, has stops in the CBDs of the three cities, according to one of the service's operators Astro Air Co., Ltd.

Chen Bairu, CEO of Astro Air, said the "flying taxi" service can reduce travel time between the three cities to about half an hour from over two hours on the road, making it a more convenient option for business people.

The aircraft used is a 12-seat Sikorsky S-76. It flies every Friday afternoon at a price of 2,999 yuan (462 U.S. dollars) for each passenger, according to the company.

The three cities are all business centers of Guangdong. Guangzhou is the provincial capital of Guangdong, while Shenzhen and Zhuhai neighbor Hong Kong and Macao respectively.
