DS Smith Opens New Automotive Specialty Packaging Facility in Poland

European packaging firm DS Smith has opened a new specialty packaging plant in Kielce, Poland.

The new 5,000m² facility has been developed to produce advanced corrugated cardboard packaging for the automotive industry.

DS Smith’s new facility includes specialty packaging department, which serves customers in assorted industrial markets, including automotive, white goods and logistics.

The department develops a range of packaging solutions for diverse products, comprising car engines, aircraft components and bulk chemicals.

Developed with an investment of PLN10m (€2.3m), the new specialty packaging plant includes a production and office area.

DS Smith Poland & Baltics managing director Krzysztof Sadowski said: "The new facility specialises mostly in the production of sophisticated corrugated cardboard packaging for the automotive industry.

“The opening of the new plant will enable us to boost production, until recently restrained by the lack of necessary area. The previous facility had been in use since 1971 and was just over half the size of the new facility.”

DS Smith is engaged in the development and manufacturing of packaging products by using corrugated cardboard, plastic and foam solutions.

The company produces single-use, multi-use and multi-material packaging solutions for the protection of automotive systems.

DS Smith produces Galia and and IMC automotive packaging products, which are standard regular slotted cases

The Galia EMB 12 is a range of single-use corrugated cardboard packaging units, which allows to ship automobile parts from manufacturing plants to various assembly plants across the globe.

The product range is comprised of cardboard crates and matching lids, as well as regrouping lids and wooden pallets.

Separately, DS Smith has opened its sixth German PackRight Centre in Hövelhof.

By considering all aspects of customer's respective supply cycle, the centre will create individual display and packaging solutions.
