Nearly Half of All Argos Sales During The 44 Weeks to January 5th Were Made Online

Nearly half of all Argos sales during the 44 weeks to January 5th were made online - some 42 per cent.

Customers can also use the Check & Reserve service across 16,000 Argos products.

The news comes as the retailer prepares to launch its new Spring/Summer 2013 range on argos.co.uk and in stores this Saturday, January 19th.

Argos' toy highlights for the summer range include new launches from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Skylanders Giants, as well as Disney Wreck It Ralph, Superman Man of Steel, Iron Man 3 and Disney/Pixar Monsters Inc. University toys.

"2012’s must-have toy Furby is back at Argos in a whole new spectrum of colourways," read a statement.

Other highlights include a new Chad Valley DesignaFriend fashion range, Colour Splashers and Barbie Mega Bloks.

In its recent financial period, the 18 weeks ending January 5th, total sales at Argos grew by 1.6 per cent to £1,744m. Like-for-like sales increased by 2.7 per cent in the period.

As part of Argos' parent company Home Retail Group's interim management statement, Terry Duddy, Chief Executive of Home Retail Group, commented: "Argos had a good peak trading period building on its first half performance. Internet sales for the year to date now represent 42 per cent of Argos' total sales, within which mobile commerce sales grew by 125 per cent as our customers took advantage of new tablet and smartphone apps and improved website functionality.

"As a result of good operational management and cash generation over the peak trading period, we now expect Group benchmark profit before tax for this financial year to be about £10m ahead of the current market consensus of £73m and the year end cash balance to be in excess of £300m.

"Whilst we anticipate consumer confidence will remain subdued in the coming year, we are focused on delivering the transformation plan to reinvent Argos as a digital retail leader and the ongoing development of the Homebase proposition."

Argos is currently running a 'half price on selected toys' promotion online. Its store count currently stands at 739.

Argos announced its digital transformation plan and several store closures last October.
