Stora Enso Opens New Consumer Board Mill in Beihai, China

Finland-based pulp and paper manufacturer Stora Enso has opened a new consumer board mill in Beihai, China.

The new mill, which is expected to reach full production within two years, has been developed with an investment of €800m.

Located in the Tieshangang industrial zone of the Guangxi region, Beihai consumer board mill can produce 450,000 tons of high-grade carton board products per annum.

Products such as liquid packaging board will be produced at the new facility.

Stora Enso CEO Karl-Henrik said: "We are delighted to announce the official opening of the Stora Enso consumer board mill in China. This is a very important milestone for us.

"China is a market with high potential and the start-up of our consumer board mill is crucial to meet the growing demand for high-quality and safe fiber-based food packaging in China and the Asia Pacific region."

Earlier this month, Stora Enso signed an agreement to divest the key assets of its Suzhou Mill in China, including the land-use rights and buildings, to the local government of Suzhou National New & Hi-tech Industrial Development Area (SND).

The cash consideration for the divestment of assets is approximately €240m.
