Samsung's A3 and A5 Only Available in Select Markets, But Now They're Coming to UK

Samsung's Galaxy A3 and A5 have only been available in select markets so far, but now they're coming to UK.

SamMobile reports the firmware for both devices is now available online, hinting it won't be long before they hit Europe.

Samsung announced both devices back at the end of October, but only in a few countries. Both all-metal devices are variations on the Galaxy Alpha, and both are highly affordable.

We're still waiting on an official launch date and price for these shores.

The Galaxy A5 is the higher-specced of the two, sporting a 5-inch 720p super AMOLED display. Inside its 6.7mm-thick body (that's just slimmer than an iPhone 6) is a 1.2GHz quad-core chip, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Unlike the Alpha, there's no microSD card slot.

The A3 has a smaller screen – 4.5 inches – and a lower resolution. At 6.9mm it's slightly fatter, and only has an 8-megapixel camera (like the Alpha, the A5 has a 13-megapixel snapper). Inside are the same processor and storage, but only half as much RAM as the A5.

Both handsets have 5-megapixel front-facing cameras, are 4G, and run Android 4.4 KitKat. There's no word on whether they will get the update to Lollipop, but considering how new they are, we would imagine they will.

Samsung launched the metal Alpha after being criticised for its plasticky phones. Many think this trend towards metal Mickeys could mean the Galaxy S6 has an all-metal frame.
