Kellogg's Introduces New Five Whole Grain Muesli

Kellogg’s launches new Five Whole Grain Muesli

Breakfast cereal manufacturer Kellogg’s has launched its new Five Whole Grain Muesli in Australia, which the Company said is the “first muesli formulation on the market to contain the five whole grains – rolled oats, wheat, barley, triticale and rye”.

Kellogg’s Five Whole Grain Muesli is the first new product to launch under the Kellogg master brand, marking the beginning of a new era for the company. Kellogg’s Five Whole Grain Muesli is available in two flavours, Sun-dried Apricot, Cranberries & Pepitas; and Roasted Almonds, Coconut & Flame Raisins.

Kellogg’s said the “75 per cent whole grain formula delivers a high fibre recipe that provides 16 per cent of an adult’s daily fibre needs and 70 per cent of their daily whole grain target in one 45 gram serve”.

Georgie Aley, Managing Director of independent body the Grains and Legumes Nutrition Council (GLNC), said whole grains were important in the diet, especially at a “significant meal time” like breakfast.

“Whole grains contain more than 30 essential nutrients and phytonutrients which act individually and together to nourish and help people feel their best as well as playing a role in disease protection,” Ms Aley said. “Studies also show that eating at least 2-3 serves of whole grains and high fibre grain foods each day reduces the risk of developing chronic disease by 20-30 per cent,” she said.

Kellogg’s said the product is “minimally processed, contains no artificial flavours or colours, is low in salt, and the sugar comes from the fruit pieces”. Spices such as cinnamon have been added, along with apricot, cranberry, seeds, nuts and coconut slivers.

Dr Michelle Celander, senior nutrition and regulatory affairs manager, Kellogg Australia and New Zealand says whole grains and fibre are “an important part of the daily diet” and that breakfast was “the perfect opportunity” to make sure people were well on their way to meeting their requirements.

“Muesli has to be one of the tastiest ways to get both whole grains and fibre at breakfast and, like most breakfast cereal, muesli can be enjoyed in many different ways,” Dr Celander said. “I usually top mine with a little yoghurt and some fresh berries,” she said.

This latest muesli innovation follows last year’s successful nutritional re-formulation of Special K, one of the oldest recipes under the Kellogg’s portfolio, the launch of All-Bran Muesli and the introduction of Special K Nourish – a multigrain cereal with quinoa and oat clusters.

Kellogg’s Five Whole Grain Muesli is available at supermarkets nationally for RRP $4.49 for 450g.
