Finland Decided to Rebuild The White Top Kraftliner Machine

Finland-based Metso has announced that it will rebuild the white top kraftliner machine at the Pite mill of SCA Packaging Munksund in Sweden, as part of a contract. The line is expected to be fully operational during 2013 and the rebuild is aimed at increasing the share of the white top kraftliner products production.

The rebuild will allow SCA to increase its total annual white top kraftliner production from the current level of 110,000t to 165,000t and the total kraftliner production from 360,000t to 415,000t.

SCA president and CEO Jan Johansson said the investment in the rebuild facilitates increased production of white top kraftliner, a specialty paper for the corrugated board industry.

"The investment is in line with the company's strategy, which is to increase production and sales of products and services with a higher degree of refinement that add value to our customers," Johansson added.

Metso said it will not disclose the value of the order. The delivery will consist of a rebuild of the approach flow system, headbox, forming, press and dryer sections as well as of the board machine ventilation system.

The 7.01m wide PM 1 machine produces white top kraftliner in the basis weight range of 115-200g/m2 and unbleached kraftliner, at the design speed of 1,100m/min in the range of 170-440g/m2 .

SCA a global hygiene and paper company, develops and produces personal care products, tissue, packaging solutions, publication papers and solid-wood products and reported 2011 sales of €11.7bn.
