Bringing glamour from the Gothic, Byzantine and Baroque eras onto the ramp at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013, Rajat Tangri’s collection called “Dark Ages” aptly recreated the drama in colours, styles and forms.

Starting with the contrasting elements like colours that moved from sombré oxblood red, emerald to antique gold, coalesce, black and teal for the very dramatic Red Carpet creations; Rajat combined them into a perfect medley for the impressive collection.

The fabrics that Rajat made the models flaunt on the ramp started with chiffon, silk, taffeta, duchess satin, wool, gabardine and ended with rough Nordic fur. For added impact there was especially woven zari.

Keeping a firm grip on the theme, Rajat ensured that men’s and women’s wear was in perfect unison with the inspiration. For men there were sharply cut suits with embroidered lapels, sedate masculine overcoats.

The grey coat with fur collar or embroidered shawl collar jacket, red embroidered shirt, double breast black jacket, gold shimmering pants and the very dazzling red three piece double breast suit, gave men’s wear some really colourful options. Brocade pants, double zippered jacket and the trench coat were added to make the male wardrobe very comprehensive.

When it came to women’s wear it was a sensuous seductive line of edgy well finished jackets, stylish separates, sophisticated diaphanous gowns and elegant dresses. Starting with the gold top/ skirt combination and the tuxedo Jumpsuit followed by a bold red/ black sheath it was ultra-glamour all the way for the rest of ensembles. The black chiffon skirt over red playsuit, teal sheath having embroidered sleeves and shrug in gold/teal sequins were sensuous.

The final line of gowns and minis - some with fish tail silhouettes - could turn into favourites for women on the celeb circuit.

Adding to the Gothic nature of the garments were embellishments like traditional zardosi in antique gold and textured embroidery with a dark fashionable indication.

The accessories by Vanita Omung Kumar from “Bioscopewalli” were totally apt for the outfits; while the head bands and belts by Deepa Gurnani from NYC added classic touches to the look. Footwear was very noticeable as it was in total harmony with the creations.

Bringing the show to a stylish close was the dashing, debonair Randeep Hooda, Bollywood’s, hot hunk and star of “Murder 3” and “Bombay Talkies” wearing a black tuxedo splashed with gold embroidery and skin tight formal pants.

For the total mesmerizing effect from the “Dark Ages” that evokes glamour with the first stylish entry, the collection by Rajat Tangri for men and women had to be the obvious choice.
