Basis Peak Smartwatch Removed From Sale Amid Overheating Woes

Usually when we use the word 'blistering' to describe a tech product it can only have positive connotations. Well not today.

Basis, the makers of the Peak activity tracker, has pulled the device from sale after a number of users complained of overheating.

The two year-old tracker is no longer available after reported instances of discomfort, blistering and burning caused simply by wearing the device.

Basis says (via Engadget) it is working on a software update to remedy the worrisome issue, but until such time as it's released, the Peak won’t be available to buy.

Whatsmore the company is also recommending that those who’ve already snapped up the wearable refrain from donning it in the interim.

The company says the issue is only affecting approximately 0.2 per cent of all devices sold to date, but says “nothing is more important than your safety” in recommending precautions.

“A small number of people have reported that their Basis Peak watches overheated and in some cases caused discomfort, blistering or burns on their wrist under the the watch body.”

The firm hasn’t revealed just how many Peak watches had been snapped up, so it’s difficult to know just how many users have been affected.

Basis is offering a full refund to those users affected as well as those who’re dissatisfied with the watch “for any reason.”
