FIRA Offers Guide to Changing Upholstery Flammability Regulations

The Government has restarted the consultation into a potential revision of the fire safety regulations for upholstered furniture. FIRA is currently analysing the proposals, and will be arranging workshops to discuss this further and to define the Furniture Industry Research Association’s response to the proposals.

The plan is to remove the 1988 Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations and replace them with an updated version - the 2016 Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations.

The Government is welcoming comments on the proposals and the draft of the new regulations, which may be viewed here. Responses to the survey can be noted here by 11th November.

FIRA is holding a workshop on 19th October at its Stevenage Office. The workshop will endeavour to: explain the proposed changes; explore the impact of the changes; look at any mitigating measures; and define an industry response to BEIS on the consultation. The workshop is free for FIRA/BFM members, and non-members can attend at a cost of £100 + VAT.
