The Perstorp Group will exhibit its next generation co-polyester called Akestraat

The Perstorp Group, a producer of specialty chemicals, will exhibit its next generation co-polyester called Akestraat at K Fair 2013.

The company has partnered with Mitsubishi Gas Chemical to develop and distribute Akestraat plastic across Europe.

Both the companies would jointly set up a production platform in Europe for the raw material used in the Akestraat plastic.

Perstorp's new plastic can be used as a polystyrene replacement for heat resistant thin wall containers. It can also be used as a poly-carbonate replacement for 'dishwasher proof' transparent products.

The Akestraat plastic, which has a sparkling glass-like appearance, is said to be a better alternative in food packaging and will also be used as a glass replacement for hot-fill food containers

Perstorp's Akestra has high melt strength that makes it suitable for extrusion blow molding as well as extrusion foaming processes.

When used with PET, Akestra creates a cell structure allowing further weight savings with better mechanical properties in structural and packaging foam applications.

Akestra, when applied with co-extrusion sheets for thermoforming, bypasses polystyrene heat resistance for hot-fill applications.
