The University Campus Become Different

University Campus Gets Trendy

Students from Birmingham City University will be transforming parts of the campus this month, to showcase which trendy interiors will be the focal point of our living rooms this year.

Focusing on key trends for Autumn/Winter 2014, the exhibition will feature a range of roomsets complete with textile, ceramic, lighting, wall and floor covering solutions.

The Trends showcase will be open to the public from now until 21st March, in the Atrium at Birmingham City University's Parkside Building.

The University exhibition follows on from last month's success at the national design expo Interiors UK 2014, where students' design concepts and public talks caught the attention of industry leaders.

Work by Textile Design student Daisy Walker was voted as Textura's 'Most Innovative Wallcover', voted for by visitors. Daisy's wall cover design will now be carried by Textura and she will receive royalties for commissioned prints.

Student Amy Sellers involvement in the exhibition impressed international trend experts Global Color Research Mix Publications, and as a result was offered an internship. The final year Textile Design student provided support to the company in the run-up to the Surface Design Show, a national interior and architecture exhibition.

Carolina Calzada-Oliveira, MD at Global Color Research, Mix Publications, says: "After 5 years of working with BCU on the trends showcase, we never cease to be surprised at the fresh ideas that each year brings. The standard of output grows each year, with new ideas, fresh approaches and innovative interpretations of our trends."

The Trends project is part of an ongoing partnership with UBM Live, Global Color Research and Textura. The 12-week project draws together the ideas of more than 60 design students; concluding in an inspiring exhibition to interpret colours, textures and design.

Joanna Birch, Head of Corporate Relations at Birmingham City University, says: "Challenging our students, staff and partners to come up with brand new concepts which are fresh, engaging and new stretches the project and generates some truly innovative content. It's this innovation which drives us and our partners to push the boundaries and is one of the most motivating elements of this showcase."
