Virginia to Build a $62m Turkey Processing Facility in Hinton

Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative will build a $62m turkey processing facility in Hinton, a move that creates new jobs.

The expansion will increase the company's poultry production by over 45% to cater to the increasing consumer demand for wholesome poultry products across the globe.

This will be backed by an additional investment in the company's feed mill in Broadway and its grain elevator in Linville.

Said to be Virginia's largest agricultural sector, poultry generates over $6bn in revenues annually, while creating over 15,000 jobs.

Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative general manager John A. King, II said: "This expansion will incorporate the very latest technology into our processes. We are responding directly to customer demands and growth requirements, while also taking care of our employees through processing modifications.

"Our ongoing commitments to food safety and animal welfare also factor heavily in this expansion."

The project is being backed by a $500,000 performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership program and a $250,000 grant from the Governor's Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund.

Founded in 2004, Virginia Poultry Growers is the eighth largest turkey processor in the US and one of the largest suppliers of organic and antibiotic-free meat. The company currently employs close to 565 people in the region.
