Mitsubishi Attrage Sedan Has Been Announced in Production Form to Bolster a Car Portfolio

The Mitsubishi Attrage sedan has been revealed in production form, bolstering the Japanese car maker’s small car portfolio.

The city-sized Mitsubishi Attrage remains largely faithful to the design of the Mitsubishi G4 concept, which appeared earlier this year at the Bangkok and Shanghai motors shows.

The Attrage name blends the word ‘attractive’ with the model name ‘Mirage’, the pint-sized hatchback with which the new compact four-door sedan shares its basic underpinnings and mechanical hardware.

The Attrage will be manufactured alongside the Mirage at Mitsubishi’s Laem Chabang Industrial Estate assembly facility in Thailand, with production scheduled to ramp up beyond 100,000 units by 2017.

The Attrage will launch in Thailand in July, and while Mitsubishi Australia is still yet to lock down an official launch date for the new model, it’s expected to land in local showrooms during the first quarter of 2014.

Like the Mirage, the Mitsubishi Attrage features a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which is expected to produce an identical output to the hatch’s 57kW of power and 100Nm of torque.

Five-speed manual and automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT) options will be available, with combined cycle fuel consumption estimated at 4.6 litres per 100km.

Mitsubishi promises the Attrage will offer class-leading manoeuvrability thanks to its 4.8m turning radius and the lightest body in its segment through the extensive use of high-tensile steel. It also says the car’s aerodynamic performance and interior space will be among the best in class.

The Attrage will support the Mirage in a two-pronged attack on the city-car segment, mirroring the strategy employed by fellow Japanese brands Honda (City and Jazz) and Nissan (Almera and Micra).
