Flat glass prices increased slightly by 0.4 percent from December to January, according to the latest Producer Price Index Report (PPI) from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The index was listed at 115.7 for January, compared with 115.2 in December. The latest report follows several recent drops, including a 0.7-percent decrease from November to December and a 0.1-percent drop from October to November.
Meanwhile, the price of construction materials also is on the rise—up 0.5 percent from December to January, according to the report. The index was listed at 220.0 for December and 221.2 for January. This rise follows a 0.3-percent increase from November to December and a 0.1-percent increase from October to November.
The PPI echoes the latest import report from the BLS, which showed a 0.7-percent rise in import prices for glass and glassware from December to January, along with reported increases from glass suppliers.
The PPI is a family of indexes that measure the average change over time in the prices received by domestic producers of goods and services, according to the BLS.
“PPIs measure price change from the perspective of the seller,” writes BLS in its description of the PPI.
