The LEA Inked a Memorandum of Understanding to Empower Young Dairy Entrepreneurs

The Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), a statutory authority of the Government of Botswana, and a milk processing firm MilkAfric have inked a memorandum of understanding to empower young dairy entrepreneurs.

As per the agreed terms, an anchor dairy farm in which both the entities had developed a comprehensive national dairy pilot out grower scheme in the Lobatse area will model all dairy farming requirements.

LEA claims that shortage of milk was a serious challenge as there were only 5,000 lactating cows in Botswana out of the 15,000 milking cows that were required to meet the nation's annual demand for 61 million liters of milk.

This partnership is expected to create a new era for the nation's dairy industry.

Founded in 2010, MilkAfric will focus on the creation of a completely new food system that will deliver quality, certified local food to consumers through strategic growth, smart partnerships and sound management.
