The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 LTE-A has been officially unveiled as the first smartphone to come running Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 810 processor.

A reworking of the popular Galaxy Note 4, the new LTE-A edition packs far more than the latest 64-bit Qualcomm chip, adding a category 6 LTE modem for possible 300Mbps download speeds.

Before you start getting your hopes up, however, the Galaxy Note 4 LTE-A will be limited to Samsung’s native South Korea when the handset is given its limited release in January.

Although few markets currently have the infrastructure to make use of such connectivity speeds, the 300Mbps download capabilities of the Note 4 LTE-A will see users capable of downloading 700MB videos in just 19 seconds, or ten 40MB songs in one second.

What’s more, the handset will be LTE-A Cat 9 service ready when networks bring 450Mbps speeds to market in the latter part of 2015.

“{pullquote}The LTE-A Tri-Band CA smartphone is a meaningful advancement in mobile and telecommunications technologies(/pullquote}, and demonstrates Samsung’s long-term commitment to providing innovation within the telecommunications industry,” JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics said.

He added: “We continue to set new challenges for the industry and push boundaries to take mobile technology to the next level and deliver the best possible customer experience.”

Although the first handset to come packing a Snapdragon 810 chip, the Galaxy Note 4 LTE-A will be far from the last.

With the annual smartphone cycle fast approaching, it is expected the likes of the Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9 will land in early 2015 packing the chipset.

Chipset and connectivity options aside, the Galaxy Note 4 LTE-A is identical to its mass-market sibling.

Packing a 5.7-inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel QHD display alongside a 16-megapixel OIS-enhanced camera, the Note 4 specs sheet adds 3GB of RAM a 3220mAh Lithium-Ion battery and Samsung’s beloved S-Pen stylus.

Despite confirmed the device is on its way, there is currently no official word on Note 4 LTE-A pricing.
