Apple Cuts USB-C Accessory Prices Following MacBook PRO Backlash

Apple is offering discounts on a number of USB-C and Thunderbolt Mac accessories following a widespread backlash over its MacBook Pro pricing decisions.

The MacBook Pro starts at £1,449 while the 13-inch version with Touch Bar starts at a whopping £1,749. The top price 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is £2,699.

However, the expenditure doesn't end there for adopters. It's likely most users will need to splash out on a number of bridge products to continue using existing accessories.

So, through the end of the year, Cupertino is offering up to 50% off a wide range of dongles, peripherals and accessories.

In a statement to TechCrunch, the company said it was making the cuts to facilitate an easier transition for traditional MacBook Pro customers that rely on ‘legacy’ connectors.

The company wrote: “We recognize that many users, especially pros, rely on legacy connectors to get work done today and they face a transition.

“We want to help them move to the latest technology and peripherals, as well as accelerate the growth of this new ecosystem. Through the end of the year, we are reducing prices on all USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 peripherals we sell, as well as the prices on Apple’s USB-C adapters and cables.”

Among the best deals include the USB-C to USB adapter, which has dropped from $19 to $9.

It is also knocking off $20 off the USB C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, which is now $49. The USB-C to Lightning Cable has been dropped from $25 to $19.

If MacBook Pro customers have already purchased these accessories, Apple will refund the difference, according to a MacRumors reader.
