Oneplus Reveals It Has No Interest in Producing Tablets

OnePlus has revealed it has no interest in producing tablets because it’s too difficult to make money selling them.

Global Director of OnePlus, Carl Pei, snubbed slates at CES this week in an interview with AndroidHeadlines.

“Tablets won’t be our thing,” said Pei, speaking at the Las Vegas tradeshow. “We haven’t really seen any good implementations with tablets.”

“And no one’s really making money on tablets. When we made this company we understood that the smartphone was the most important product for everyone.”

OnePlus currently only has two main SKUs – the OnePlus One and the OnePlus Power Bank, as well as a host of low-cost accessories.

While we don’t know what OnePlus’ exact plans are for the future, it’s now clear that tablets aren’t amongst them.

“We could have started with any other product, but it wouldn’t affect everyone as much as a smartphone,” explained Pei.

“Imagine if we announced a smartwatch last year instead of a smartphone. We wouldn’t be as popular as we are now. We have some prototypes, but we haven’t decided on what we are going to make next.”

Pei also talked about the upcoming OnePlus Two, and revealed that the release date is currently pegged for Q2 or Q3, although they’ve ‘changed the release windows 4 or 5 times’ internally.

The director also said that the display on the OnePlus Two has changed a few times too, and closed by saying: “The final product will surprise people.”
