Viridor Commenced The Construction of New Plastics Recycling Facility in Rochester

UK-based recycling company Viridor has commenced the construction of new £12.5m plastics recycling facility (PRF) in Rochester.

Stadler UK, which has designed the plant, is responsibile for delivering the project.

The new PRF has the capacity to process around 75,000 tons of mixed plastics into high quality clean plastic grades annually.

These plastic grades will be used in the production of new plastic products and packaging, according to the company.

The plant, which is the fourth specialist PRF to be delivered by Stadler UK, will also be used to separate around 10,000 tons of glass from combined input streams every year.

Viridor noted that the new plant in Kent will create many job opportunities during construction phase and opportuniites for local business.

The Kent facility, which is expected to be operational in early autumn, will create about 26 permanent jobs.

Stadler UK sales manager Trevor Smart said, "The combination of our expertise in the design and delivery of plastics recycling facilities and excellent working relationship with Viridor will see this multi-million pound, state of the art facility open for processing later this year."

Viridor resource management director Herman van der Meij said the latest investment is a signal of company's real commitment towards helping develop a circular economy in the UK.

"Our industry is at the heart of making the green economy a reality. Making the most of the resources we have within the UK is becoming increasingly important as it creates employment opportunities and helps the country achieve its ambitions of becoming a leader in sustainability," Meij added.
