Leotek Electronics Has Entered The Residential LED Lighting Market in Taiwan

Leotek Electronics, a Lite-On Technology subsidiary, has entered the residential LED lighting market in Taiwan with a goal of attaining a market share of 10% for LED light bulbs by the end of 2014, according to New Business Development CEO Danny Liao for the Lite-On Group.

In addition, Leotek aims at a combined market share of 30% for LED bulbs in the Taiwan and China markets in three years, Liao said.

Leotek has extended development and production from LED street lamps, LED traffic lights and commercial LED lighting devices to residential LED lighting by offering a 10W and a 13W 320-degree omni-directional LED light bulb, Liao said. Leotek adopts LED chips produced by Taiwan-based Epistar and uses components and packaging services supplied by members of the Lite-On Group, Liao indicated.

The 10W model with yellow color temperature of 3,000K and white color temperature of 5,000K can replace a 60W incandescent bulb or a 13W compact fluorescent light bulb and is for sale at NT$429 (US$14.5), while the 13W model with the same yellow and white color temperatures can replace a 75W incandescent bulb or a 18W CFL bulb and sells at NT$529, Liao indicated.

Leotek has a monthly production capacity of 10,000-20,000 LED light bulbs currently and plans to expand capacity to 30,000 units in 2014, Liao said. There is estimated demand for 4-5 million LED light bulbs a year in the Taiwan market, Liao indicated.

In addition to the Taiwan market, Leotek will tap emerging markets in China and the Asia Pacific region for LED light bulbs, Liao noted.

Leotek has won government procurement of 50,000 LED street lamps through an open-bid in Taiwan, Liao said. In addition, Leotek has a market share of 30% for LED street lamps and LED traffic lights each in the North America market, Liao indicated.
