TRW Is Planning to Launch Its Integrated Electric Park Brake and ESC System

TRW Automotive Holdings is planning to launch its integrated Electric Park Brake (EPBi) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system in Europe and Asia Pacific in 2014 and later in North America.

With the new system, EPB control functions are performed within the upgraded ESC electro-hydraulic control unit, eliminating the need for a separate electronic control unit in the system network.

The EPBi system is expected to improve driving safety and comfort as well as provide the enhanced freedom to choose interior design and packaging.

TRW Automotive Holdings Braking Engineering vice president Josef Pickenhahn said, "We can realize significant benefits when integrating the two technologies: reducing system complexity, weight and installation effort, in addition to offering vehicle manufacturers a potential cost reduction resulting from the elimination of the ECU."

EPB and EPBi will include additional functions such as drive away assist, automatic hill hold and electronically controlled deceleration.

Additionally, the new vehicle platforms will also feature TRW's EBC460 slip control technology, an advanced ESC which will enhance value and performance.

TRW Automotive Holdings said the new system will launch on C, D, E and MPV vehicle segments in Europe and in China.
