Hardlines Testing Laboratory Is Expanded by Intertek in Germany

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions for a wide range of industries around the world, announces the expansion of its hardlines laboratory in Fuerth. To mark the expansion, an opening day was held and attended by retailers, manufacturers and suppliers from the furniture, household goods, toys, sporting goods and textile industries.

"Our hardlines laboratory in Fuerth complements Intertek's global network of 45 laboratories that provide services for these industries. It optimally combines global technology and professional expertise with our local presence," said John Qin, Senior Vice President, Toys & Hardlines at Intertek.

The state-of-the-art laboratory features 1,200 square meters of new space dedicated to hardlines testing – bringing the total in Fuerth to 4,000 square meters – and offers fast and flexible testing and certification services for toys, furniture, household goods, kitchen items and mechanical products.

For the furniture and furnishings sector, our experienced hardlines team tests beds and seating furniture, tables and work surfaces, kitchen and bathroom furniture, furniture for education and outdoor use as well as shop and storage facilities for private and commercial use.

Tests for mechanical products include leisure and camping goods, stationery, sporting goods, products for babies and children, personal protective equipment, car and bike accessories, tools for garden and home as well as ladders and grills. Testing and certification services for household goods, cookware, cutlery, ceramics and glass and kitchen items, of all kinds, complete the portfolio.

Intertek tests consumer goods and their components for features such as safety, performance, product life cycle, material properties, corrosion and weather resistance, color fastness and aging, pollution and emission content, surface resistance and product conformity, according to legislation of the relevant markets.

Intertek product certification and quality marks – such as the GS Mark, which is recognized throughout Germany and EU countries as the symbol for "Safety Tested," the Green Leaf Mark for environmentally friendly products and the Independently Tested Mark as proof of meeting specific usability and performance criteria – enable manufacturers to reliably demonstrate the quality of their products and promote their market value.

“The expansion of our Fuerth hardlines testing lab is in direct response to our growing client base in the area,” said Adem Durmaz, Business Development Director, Hardlines at Intertek.

"The location of our full-service laboratories in the strategically important industrial region of Middle Franconia reduces transportation costs and product testing time for many our customers. Intertek also operates chemical testing laboratories at the site to offer complete ‘one-stop-shop’ testing services for our clients."
