Software applications help textile professionals to reduce investment in terms of time and money, and increase productivity as maximum work is done by a few clicks. Besides, the system is highly flexible and can rapidly be modified to changes in the production line leading to an improvement in the overall profitability, according to an industry expert.

“Every manufacturer looks for a mechanism or a way which can yield maximum output with minimum input. For instance, in textiles the entire process of designing a fabric is revolutionised. Where previously designers used to labour over graph paper and stencils, now they simply have to play with a mouse or stylus to come out with innovative designs,” Manish Kumar, regional director (softlines), India of Intertek told fibre2fashion.com.

“When the maximum work is done by a few clicks, it increases productivity radically, ensures an optimal working flow and provides time for adding value to your products,” he says. “An increment in productivity level reduces garment manufacturing cost, thereby improving overall profitability.”

Citing an example, he states that CAD E-Fit – one of their software applications – reduces the lead time in pre-production process networks to yield competitive advantage. This facility helps manufacturers with creating designs on screen in 3D, and patterns and fabrics stitched on to this virtual model to visualise a garment.

CAD and fit services will also provide successful use of mass customisation strategies that will benefit the textile and apparel industry. It will enable clients to see the fit from their respective offices, he concludes.
