Trade Resources Industry Views New Shrink-Wrapping

New Shrink-Wrapping

Produced for the FMCG’s ultra-concentrated fabric conditioner launch, Sun Branding Solutions has implemented a technique that applies brand creative to 2D and 3D structural packaging for the new range without distorting it when it is applied to the bottle’s premium gloss varnish texture – a common problem within 3D packaging.

Sun Branding has used specially designed plugins within Adobe Illustrator to import the shrunk sleeve as a flat object and apply the artwork to the 3D model instantly, allowing the pack specialist to predict where the bottle would distort.

These distortions can be counteracted at set positions across the bottle before the shrink wrap is applied, regardless of which shrink procedure is used.

Sun Branding Solutions worked in collaboration with PB Creative, which designed the 2D and 3D structural packaging for the new range.

Michele Sassi, account manager at Sun Branding Solutions, said: “After several trials with multiple finishing types, we focused our efforts on implementing a premium gloss varnish; delivering bright designs whilst leaving space for a second generation with new special effects.”

Yasemin Kural, senior brand manager and project leader at Unilever, said: “Collaborating closely with their print and packaging specialists, the team were able to ensure our breakthrough product could land on-shelf on time without compromising on the vibrant designs.”

The new range is set to launch this April across the UK, France and The Netherlands.

The Intense range includes Fresh Sky, Fuchsia Passion, Ocean Pearl and Sunburst in the UK.
