Dow Expanded Its Food Packaging Solutions with The Addition of Polyolefin Dispersions

US-based Dow Chemical's Adhesives & Functional Materials business has expanded its food packaging solutions with the addition of new Hypod water-based polyolefin dispersions.

The water-based system also includes properties of polyolefins and allows converters as well as brand owners to create new packaging designs including paper and paperboard, food packaging and specialty packaging.

Dow Adhesives & Functional Materials EMEA senior marketing manager Margherita Fontana said, "HYPOD Polyolefin Dispersions offer the opportunity to create totally new packaging applications and markets enabling significant innovation in coating, adhesives and sealants on conventional water-based processing technology."

Hypod Polyolefin Dispersions also help address important packaging sustainability requirements and offer the opportunity to reduce organic solvents emissions compared to existing solvent-based coatings.

According to Dow, the dispersions are claimed to offer good adhesion between paper, foil and film layers, heat sealability to polar and non-polar substrates as well as resistance to oil and grease.

The properties of Hypod are enabled by Dow's BLUEWAVE Technology and make them customizable, allowing the development of additional functionalities.
