Fluor Completes Consumer Board Project for Stora Enso in China

US-based Fluor has completed work on Stora Enso’s consumer board machine in Beihai Mill in Guangxi, China.

As part of the deal signed earlier, Fluor provided procurement and construction management services for the board machine and associated infrastructure, including power, water and effluent treatment facilities.

Constructed with an investment of €800m, the facility was integrated with a sustainable eucalyptus plantation.

Fluor Asia Pacific business president Ken Choudhary said: "Fluor leveraged our nearly 40 years of experience in China to deliver this consumer board machine for Stora Enso and the Beihai community safely and on an unprecedented timeline."

Flour employed more than 5,500 people during the work on the project, which produced the first consumer board 18 months after the start of construction.

The consumer board machine has been designed to produce up to 450,000t of liquid packaging board and other high-grade paperboard products per year, in order to meet the demand in China.

Fluor life-sciences and advanced manufacturing business president Juan Hernández said: "We look forward to delivering the same results on the project's second phase, a mechanical pulp mill, as it completes in the fourth quarter of 2016."

Stora Enso is a provider of renewable solutions in packaging, biomaterials, wooden constructions and paper on global markets.
