Daimler to Build New Vehicle Safety Technology Centre in Germany

Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler will build a new vehicle safety technology centre in Germany as part of its continued development of passenger car protection measures.

The new vehicle safety technology centre will be built in Stuttgart-Sindelfingen, next to Daimler AG's existing development centre, by Munich-based firm Messring, a global manufacturer of crash test systems and components.

Designed to accommodate the latest developments in standard vehicle safety technology for passenger cars, trucks and buses, the centre will also house testing facilities for the continued advancement of Mercedes-Benz's Pre-Safe assistance systems.

The new centre, featuring a total floor space of 55,000 square metres and a testing facility measuring 8100 square metres, is scheduled for completion in 2016.

Currently, Mercedes-Benz safety systems include collision prevention, blind spot assist, attention assist, lane keep assist, brake assist, distronic plus adaptive cruise control and active bonnets, along with various driver and passenger airbags.
