Sealed Air Has Introduced a New Packaging Technology Restore Mushroom Packaging

Global protective packaging company Sealed Air has introduced a new packaging technology Restore Mushroom Packaging, which is made from non-food agricultural byproducts and mycelium or mushroom roots.

According to the US-based company, the new 100% renewable packaging has been developed by the materials science company, Ecovative Design.

The packaging uses the power of mycelium to bind agricultural waste into a molded shape that offers a home compostable, engineered protective packaging solution to the customers.

Sealed Air protective packaging sustainable solutions business manager Tim McInerney said the product is made from renewable materials and provides equal performance to traditional materials.

"As the exclusive provider of this product in North America, we are excited to add Sealed Air Restore™ Mushroom® Packaging to our expanding portfolio of sustainable and reliable protective packaging solutions," McInerney said.

Custom-engineered to meet the individual needs of the customers, the Restore cushions are completely biodegradable, allowing for easy and environmentally sound disposal.

The cushions are grown through a low-energy and automated process that involves filling of the raw materials uniformly into forms that allow them to take the final shapes.

Sealed Air claims that the new packaging can be used for cushioning, blocking and bracing scenarios and any application such as automotive parts, lighting fixtures and even electronics.

Restore, which has been sustainably sourced using non-petrochemical materials, converts agricultural waste material into a packaging solution that uses less amount of materials and provides proper protection.
