Invista Produces a Series of Specialty LYCRA Fiber Products

Invista, one of the world’s largest integrated producers of polymers and fibers, announces the start-up of a new production line in Tuas, Singapore, designed specifically to produce a series of specialty LYCRA fiber products to serve the growing innovation needs of the Asian region.

The new production line will initially focus on production of Easy Set LYCRA fiber, a specialty type of LYCRA fiber with improved heat set efficiency and is targeted for use with sensitive fibers, such as silk or cellulosics, as well as for use with moulded applications such as bra cups. By heating these fabrics at a lower temperature, the risk of thermal degradation reduces as well as the fabric yellowing under the heat. The results are improved fabric quality and softer hand especially for lingerie and underwear applications."

Dan Kotkin, executive vice president, Eastern Region Invista Apparel, says; “The Singapore plant was built with the most innovative and modern engineering capabilities to manufacture the best LYCRA fiber technology. Producing Easy Set LYCRA fiber here reinforces our belief that the Singapore plant is a strategic asset for Invista Apparel, to help serve and supply quality fibers to customers in South Asia, and ASEAN, as well as global sourcing value-chains.”

The Easy Set LYCRA fiber line is part of more than US$25 million worth of investment that has been made over in Invista’s Singapore asset in the last two years to support the growth of the Apparel and Personal Care segments in the region. A year ago, the plant started manufacturing LYCRA fiber with W Technology - which offers improved whiteness retention, uniformity and brilliant colour clarity for fabrics and garments in Intimate Apparel. Other new products now produced at the Singapore Site include T-162L LYCRA fiber for Apparel and the expansion of LYCRA HyFit fiber production for the Personal Care segment.

The first production line at Invista’s Tuas site was started up in 1994, producing premium fibers for the Apparel business. The plant is constantly evaluating options to develop and produce higher value, innovative products to serve the customers of the region.

Invista is one of the world’s largest integrated producers of polymers and fibers, primarily for nylon, spandex and polyester applications.
