Motorola Announces a New 6-Inch Addition to Smartphone Lineup for China

Motorola has announced a new 6-inch addition to its smartphone lineup, the Moto X Pro - but it's probably only coming to China.

Last year, Chinese manufacturer Lenovo bought Motorola from Google. While this appeared at the time to be an attempt to gain a foothold in the Western smartphone market, it turns out that Motorola will be returning to China too.

A new post on the official Motorola blog reveals that the company is bringing the Moto X (2014) and the Moto G 2 to the ultra-competitive Chinese market.

Of far more interest, though, is a third and seemingly new device - the Moto X Pro.

This phone features a 6-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 805 CPU, a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation, front-facing stereo speakers, and a 3220mAh battery.

Ringing any bells? Yes, this is effectively the Nexus 6, rebranded as a pure Motorola device. At the time of its launch, many commented on the fact that the new Nexus was very clearly a blown-up Moto X rather than a custom redesign, as was the case with previous Nexus phones.

In fact, with the reinstatement of Motorola's subtle but effective software tweaks like Moto Display, the Moto X Pro is arguably a better phone than the Nexus 6.

The new Moto X Pro will go on sale in China alongside the Moto G with 4G LTE at the end of February, while the Moto X will land earlier in the month.
