Order for PC and Notebook Related IC Vendors Is Better Than Expected in Q3

Order visibility for Taiwan-based PC and notebook related IC vendors for the third quarter of 2014 is better than expected due to a rebound in demand for notebooks and other PC products, according to industry sources.

However, suppliers of logic ICs seem to have benefited most from rising PC sales, while analog IC vendors are struggling to ramp up their shipments significantly due to competition from China-based rivals, said the sources.

Logic IC design houses, including Realtek Semiconductor, ASMedia Technology and Genesys Logic have seen their revenues and profits grow over 20% so far in 2014, buoyed by strong orders for Ethernet, codec and USB chips, noted the sources.

Most logic IC vendors have also managed to ramp up their market shares as a number of fellow companies have switched their focus to chips for mobile devices, added the sources.
