Lamborghini Gallardo Lp 570-4 Squadra Corse to Debut at Frankfurt

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse has been revealed ahead of its debut at September's Frankfurt motor show, potentially pushing back the unveiling of the long-running model's replacement.

Said to bring the performance and emotion of the race track to the road, the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse is based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo – the race car used in the brand's Blancpain Super Trofeo racing series.

With both cars borrowing their technical underpinnings and four-wheel-drive systems from the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 is again used to power the new Squadra Corse. This results in 419kW of power, 540Nm of torque, 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.4 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 10.4sec and a top speed of 320km/h – making it 0.2sec slower to 200km/h than the Superleggera with a 5km/h lower v-max.

The race car's six-speed e-gear paddle-shifted transmission also carries over as does its carbon composite rear wing and carbon composite quick-release bonnet.

Relying on the use of carbonfibre and aluminium, including a carbon-ceramic braking system, the new Gallardo matches the Superleggera's dry weight figure of 1340kg – 70kg less than the standard Gallardo LP 560-4.

The exterior features a revised, yet no less aggressive, front bumper and front lip spoiler, gloss-black rear diffuser, gloss-black 19-inch forged wheels and red brake calipers – the latter also available black or yellow.

Offered in Giallo Midas (yellow), Bianco Monocerus (white), Grigio Thalasso (grey) and in Rosso Mars (red), the Squadra Corse also highlights its Italian roots with green, white and red stripes along its flanks.

Inside sees alcantara used on the dashboard and racing seats while the bucket seats themselves, door panels, centre console cover and handbrake frame are all carbonfibre items. The lightweight material also features on the steering wheel, instrument panels, door handles and glove box. Lamborghini says "comfort seats" can be ordered in place of the racing items.

The Squadra Corse, which takes its name from Lamborghini's motorsport department, follows a long line of model variants of the Sant'Agata-based firm's best-selling model, including the Spyder, Balboni and numerous special editions.

According to previous reports, the 2013 Frankfurt motor show, which opens its doors on September 12, was to host the unveiling of a concept car previewing the Gallardo's long-awaited replacement. Whether the Squadra Corse's debut will push that plan back is unclear.
