In 1948, Max and Edna Schneiderman purchased a run-down general store in Elmer Township, Minn. The store sold everything from furniture and appliances to hardware and groceries. In 1968, the couple dropped hardware and groceries to focus on furniture, appliances and carpeting. They sold the store to their sons, Larry and Russell, in the 1970s, who built Schneiderman's into a regional furniture chain that now has five stores in Minnesota.

Max Schneiderman died in 1988.

Edna Schneiderman is survived by two sons, two daughters, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the Benedictine Health Center Chapel, 935 Kenwood Ave., Duluth, Minn. 55811, or Lutheran Social Services, 2485 Como Ave., St. Paul, Minn., 55108.
